Included in the Windows XP operating system is a feature to create and access compressed (or zipped) folders. These folders allow the user to combine a number of individual files into one space-saving file which is then able to be decompressed by other users. This is very valuable when e-mailing a large quantity of files, such as images.
Creating A Compressed Folder |

1. Begin by selecting the file(s) you wish to send to a compressed folder.
2. After you have selected the file(s), right-click anywhere in the highlighted area.

3. From the drop-down menu that appears, navigate to Send To >> Compressed (zipped) Folder.
4. This will create a compressed folder in the same directory as your selected files. It will be named after one of the files which it contains.

1. To open a compressed folder, simply double-click on it's icon.
2.This will bring you to a window showing the contents of the compressed folder.
3. At this point, you can either open each file individually and save them to another location, or you can choose to extract all of the files to the same location at the same time.
4. To extract all of the files, select the Extract all files task on the left-hand side of the window (highlighted in red).
5. This will open the "Compressed Folders Extraction Wizard". Click Next to begin the wizard.

6. The next screen allows you choose where you wish to extract the contents of the compressed folder.
7. By default, the wizard will extract the contents of the compressed folder into the same directory where said folder is located.
8. If you wish to extract the files to a different location, either type the location into the provided text field, or click the Browse button to navigate using a folder tree.

9. Using the folder tree, select the location to which you wish to save the contents of the compressed folder.
10. Once you have selected your desired location, click OK.
11. Click Next to extract the file(s).
12. Once the files have been extracted, click Finish to close the wizard and view the extracted file(s).
